How do I even begin to describe this perfect day and all of the beautiful moments, laughter and the tears? I am completely head over heels in love with this day! I feel so incredibly fortunate when couples choose me to be a part of one of the most special days of their lives, I fully and completely love what I do! It is so incredible to be able to help capture people’s love stories! As soon as I met Sandra and Christian at our consultation, I instantly felt a connection with them and knew that we would have a great day together! I could tell that they were this amazing, funny and down to earth couple who were madly in love with each other! I was counting down the days until they tied the knot! Their wedding day began on a smouldering hot day in July, a smoky haze blanketed the area from all of the recent forest fires and it gave an ethereal, romantic look. Sandra was getting ready at her parents home near the golf course and Christian was getting ready at the couples home in town- I couldn’t wait for them to see each other at the ceremony! The colours for the day were a classic and timeless black, white and grey with silver accents, and the theme was simply and beautifully a tree theme. The bride wore sequinned black heels and the couple chose unique black rings, which looked incredibly glamorous! When Sandra and her bridesmaids got into their dresses they literally took my breath away- they were some of the most gorgeous dresses I had ever seen! Sandra wore a beautiful ball gown fit for a princess and her sisters wore stunning charcoal coloured wrap dresses that they found on Etsy! It was finally time to head to the ceremony so the girls hopped in the family golf cart chauffeured by none other than Sandra’s dad! The ceremony took place on the golf course under the shade of a giant tree- it was one of the most beautiful outdoor ceremonies I had ever photographed! The backdrop and smoky haze was so beautiful! If you are ever looking for an amazing place to get married, I definitely recommend the Drayton Valley Golf Club! Not only was it stunning but the service and staff were exceptionally wonderful! The ceremony was filled with so many beautiful moments! My second shooter, Joanne, and I got a little choked up when Sandra and Christian saw each other for the first time, and when they emotionally said their vows. The rest of the afternoon was spent zooming around the golf course in our golf carts to take photos (Seriously, I wish I had a golf cart for every wedding that I photograph! There was a spot for my camera bag, cooler, step ladder, it gave us a cool breeze on such a hot day and resting my swollen pregnant feet while we drove from site to site felt amazing! I may have almost killed Joanne a few times and she may never drive with me again but I had a blast!) The wedding party was a riot, and they were so cheerful and cooperative! Even though it was insanely hot they all had smiles on their faces and didn’t complain even once! Sandra and Christian had one of my favourite setups ever for their reception! They wanted something relaxed and low key that they could just enjoy with their family and friends and decided to transform the inside of her parent’s quonset for the venue! It was so refreshing to see something so unique! They decorated the inside with trees that had fallen in the bush, chandeliers, string lights (which add a touch of magic to reception lighting), ornaments dangling from branches, a handmade log cake stand and podium and so much more! I love seeing couple’s put so much heart and talent into making their decor special to them! The grooms mother, who had flown in from the east coast, lovingly baked their cake/cupcakes, which was a super special touch! One of the highlights of the evening was when the couple cut the cake- this wasn’t any ordinary cake cutting! Sandra, who may be a bit “vertically challenged” used a step ladder to make up for the height difference between herself and her tall groom! They decided a knife to cut the cake would be too boring, so in fashion with their tree wedding theme, they used an axe! The first few dances were magical as Christian lead his gorgeous new bride around under the twinkle of the lights! After the next few dances, the MC had a BIG surprise for Sandra! If any of you are from the east coast, you will apparently know all about the tradition of “screeching” someone in. I had NEVER heard of this before, but as soon as I caught a whiff of the dead fish that the MC hauled in, I knew Sandra was in for it! Her brother in law recited a poem and she had to kiss a fish (Until Christian insisted that they went easy on her and that she in fact, had to give the fish some tongue!) and do a shot! It was absolutely hilarious to watch! I am still smiling when I think back to this day and am so excited to share a few (well, more than a few) sneak peeks with you! This is a SUPER long blog post, but with over 1,600 final photos being delivered to the bride and groom it was very hard for me to narrow it down! Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Nickerson!!! Wishing you lots of love and happiness!
